There is a permanent orienteering course that can be customized at Shawnee Mission Park.
http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMBD4K_Shawnee_Mission_Park_TRIM_Course_Shawnee_Kansas There is also one at Ernie Miller Park. http://www.ptoc.org/htdocs/trimCrs.html You can choose your own markers at Shawnee Mission Park so that you make a 1 mile course for the first class requirement. From the PTOC president: "Users of the TRIM course at Shawnee Mission Park make up their own course. There are 71 permanent markers set throughout the park. You may visit them in any order. Leaders could specify which markers to visit, hide the control codes on the clue sheet, and require the scouts to record the control code that they find when they arrive at the control location. The TRIM course at Ernie Miller Park only has 7 or 8 controls. I don't necessarily recommend it for the Scouts. " http://jcprd.com/park_admin/pdf/smp-map.pdf short URL: bit.do/kc-compass
