MAP FOR HIKE AND YOUTH CAMP AREA (LOOK BY THE NORTH MARKER)You will need the Detailed Map to get from Gopher Lake to the Youth Camping Area if you plan to hike there. Stay to the right of the stream, don't cross the large bridge. If hiking from the campgound to Gopher lake, the trailhead marker from the road is a red gate, immediately across the street from the gate that neighbors on the north side of the campground. The camping merit badge offers the option of participating in a 4-mile backpacking trip. The Reed Memorial Wilderness Area offers a youth camping area that is accessible via a short hike (or by road, if preferred). For the camp permit, call the phone # at this site: James A. Reed Wildlife Memorial AreaTo make it a 4 mile hike, we went on the horse trail up to Catclaw Lake and then back again to where we started: Bodarc Lake.
